Gwendraeth Fach

The Gwendraeth Fach flows from its source at Mynydd Mawr to Kidwelly where it joins its sister, the Gwendraeth Fawr. On its journey to the Atlantic Ocean it passes through the following settlements:

Cellifor
Gors
Gelli-ddu
Porthyrhydd
Glanyrynys
Cwrt
Cwmisfael
Capel Ifan
Llangyndeyrn
Panteg
Pontantwn
Llandyfaelog
Plas-y-wenallt
Mynyddygarreg
Llangadog
Kidwelly

The fertile red soil of the Gwendraeth Fach valley supports many small agricultural communities where families have farmed for generations, mostly in smallholdings ranged along the valleyside, rearing cattle & sheep.

As most of the land is designated pasture, many long-established meadows provide a medley of colour in spring and summer. Having retained a wealth of ancient hedgerow, numerous and varied species of fauna survive here. These include the badger, the buzzard, the shrew and the red kite.

As you follow the valley from the river's source near Wenallt Tower, you will pass many a landmark, from ancient standing stones, cairns and earthworks to the more 'modern' fortification of Kidwelly castle.
